The benefits and drawbacks of the diverse heating gas boiler layouts
Various types of Gas Central Heating Systems are available in the central heating market. These systems for the most part are made up of a number of heating radiators, pipework and of course a gas heating boiler.
People in the UK, Europe and some parts of Russia, hardly need an air conditioner because of the low average temperature. That is why in the UK most houses built these days are constructed with Gas Central Heating Systems fully integrated into the home.
A reliable Central Heating system is important to keep your house warm especially during winter months. Heating your home provides a relaxing and cosy atmosphere. Your Gas Central Heating System needs to be reliable. You should feel that your Gas Central Heating System is safe, easy to use and long lasting.
There are two main types of Central Heating Systems; pumped/vented and sealed systems.
The vented/pumped one is more common of the two. An expansion tank is present in a pumped heating system. Your central heating radiators are heated and your water is stored in a hot water tank. Any water expansion that may occur due to heating is handled by the expansion tank. The tank is placed in the highest place, normally the attic area. It heats the house and doubles as the water supply.
For many years now, pumped/vented systems have been the norm for Gas Central Heating.
A slightly newer gas boiler is sealed heating system and this is the preferred heating system in newer properties. A sealed system, as the name suggests is a closed system so no water tanks are needed. There are no tanks or pipework in the loft, the whole system is sealed, its unvented, which has its benefits:.
- The problem of freezing pipes is eliminated.
- No maintenance work on the tank or pipes that would be in the loft in a pumped/vented system.
- The danger of a leaking water tank is all together missing.
- The sealing off of the system eliminates dirt buildup, air locking and corrosion that often troubles open vented systems.
- If necessary, the system can be flushed out under pressure using the main water supply.
A sealed Gas Central Heating System is a packaged unit with all the necessary controls and safety devices. The sealed system gets its water through the main water supply at pressure. The pressure of the main water supply benefits the hot water outlets and gives a healthy shower.
Separated from the sealed system by a diaphragm is a pressure vessel, which contains compressed gas; this vessel is responsible for managing variations of pressure in the heating system. A safety valve will let water to escape or fill up depending on whether the pressure becomes too high or too low respectively.
As compared to other heating systems, Gas Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. Their ease of operation and versatility is much better than other types of heating.
