Have you got a gas heating system yet

As the cold wintertime approaches the nights get longer and the coldness creeps in, so we must all be prepared, and the best way to do this is via a central heating system. By centrally heating your house, you can make it more comfortable, inviting and relaxing.

The two basic types of gas central heating systems are called pumped and vented, both of which are made up of a gas boiler, radiators and usually copper pipework.

The most often used system of the two is probably the pumped systems, these comprise of a feed and expansion tank, which works by the gas boiler heating up which then distributes the heat through the pipes to the heaters. Due to heat, the water in the tank expands and fills it up.

The second type of heater is composed of a sealed system without a central component that is part of the central heating radiator. No water tanks are needed because the system is closed. A sealed gas central heating system eliminates the risk of water leakage, airlock formation and pipe freeze (a common problem in the harsh winters of countries like Russia).

Tell me why I should get central heating?.

The primary benefit of central heating is that the entire home or office is warmed up rapidly, and that too, without adversely affecting the air around you. Electric fires, gas and storage heaters were the types used in the old days. However, these were not ideal as they emitted an odour and affected the condition of the air, drying it out.

Gas central heating ended such problems, however your central heating system should be checked and serviced regularly in order to ensure it is running at its optimum. Spring and summer often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly switched on when a chilly wind blows in. You should instead try to gradually introduce them in the autumn time, testing so if things are playing up you can easily call out an engineer.

Periodic emptying is very important for some types of central heating systems since they constantly suck dirt and air into them. The best way to do this is to place a bucket underneath the drain valve and slowly open it to release the water, but just make sure that no more air or dirt is making its way in.
