Cleaning gas heating systems before further activity
Cleaning gas heating systems before further activity
At some point in the lifespan of your fully pumped gas central heating system you will want to clear it. To substitute the boiler or a heating radiator is a frequent reason. Your engineer will normally be performing list has although some householders do have the confidence to try this themselves.
In most circumstances Draining the central heating is carried out to clean the heating radiators. The first step you should take is to turn off the central heating boiler and central heating pump. To successfully finish this job you also need to ensure that no more water enters the gas heating system.
Your Central Heating expansion water tank is where the water is fed into the system. This has a ballvalve that is the same as the one seen in your toilet tank. As the water reaches maximum level the ball floats on the surface and closes the valve. As the water level falls, say through Draining, the ball drops in the cystern opening the valve and allowing more water to enter the gas central heating system. Water will need to be prevented from entering the central heating system if the Draining process is to complete. One of the best ways to contain this is by putting a piece of wood across the cylinder and binding the value arm to it, which will close this valve.
When you are confident that you are prevented any further water entering the central heating system you should attach a hose pipe to the outlet valve at the bottom of a heating radiator taking care to ensure the end of the hosepipe is in a flush outdoors your property. The gas heating system can now empty by water flowing out of the radiator, through the outlet valve, and into the outdoors flush. Obviously, if you want to empty the whole gas heating system you will need to attach the hose pipe to one of the level metal radiators. Before you start any other work on this gas heating system you must now ensure that all the water has emptied out and no other the water is entering into the heating radiators.
More air can enter the heating system if you vent the top level heating radiator bleed valves and this will help matters to conclude rapidly. When the water is drained off you are free to work on your metal radiator.
