A central heating boiler care scheme can assist a great deal by relieving your labour costs
Heating your home isn’t that much of a problem in the summertime, but unless you’re in the strange habit of only taking cold showers and boiling the kettle every time you wash up, you could be left high and dry if your heating boiler breaks down. It is strange though that the heating boiler is never considered to be an important piece of equipment until it stops working. And then you realise how important, not to mention expensive, it really is.
Generally a tenant paying rent is not liable to repair a malfunctioning gas boiler as the landlord is responsible for maintenance and repair of his premises. But if you live in your own house, it will be wise to have a special savings pot or central heating insurance in case something goes wrong with your gas boiler.
It is advisable to buy a new model rather than getting your ten year old central heating system repaired, this will cut down the fuel costs too in future years. There are different options when it comes to choosing a new central heating system and you should consider the space in your home, number of people you live with and your current heating boiler when it comes to figuring out which one suits you best. For smaller homes with fewer people a combi boiler tends to be the most common choice, especially if you want instant hot water at mains pressure. In a combi boiler water is drawn through the mains and heated immediately eliminating the need of storage tanks. Hot water is instant and on demand; but if someone runs a hot tap while you’re having a nice hot shower, be prepared to jump out quickly!.
The other option is to have a sealed system boiler which uses a storage tank, which allows bigger families to use different water outlets at the same time without affecting the water pressure or temperature. It is quite easy to install the system gas boiler and it can also easily fit into your home. However, because of the storage tank, hot water isn’t instant and can run out if used too quickly.
The most space is taken , two water tanks in the attic and a storage cylinder in the upstairs airing cupboard, by a open vent gas boiler normally found in older houses. Though it does not give the best pressure and takes a while to heat, it is very like a sealed system that can provide hot water to several outlets.
The fifth type is a back boiler which is bulkier, but can deliver hot water to several outlets under good pressure. Back boilers are usually stored in the chimney breast but if you do not have this type of heating boiler installed you will find that it is not worth shifting over to this form of heating. But if your home had a back central heating boiler installed when you moved in, it can save you a lot of money; if it needs replacing, it’s far cheaper to get a new back central heating boiler to replace and old one than it is to get a completely different system installed.
Any malfunctioning heating boiler system requires expensive overhauling and repair. So it is important to get a central heating insurance so that your costs are covered even if something goes wrong with your system. And you could save yourself even more if you take out a boiler maintenance policy that also includes yearly central heating system inspections, giving you peace of mind that it is operating both safely and efficiently.
